Captain Henry Wolsey Johnson was born 9th August, 1821 at Oswego, New York.  He was married twice, his first wife having died at sea.  After he left the sea he became a New York harbour master.  When he was about sixty years old he came to England and was employed as an agent for the Midland Railway Co., based in Central Station, Liverpool.  Captain Johnson's grave is one of the earliest in Rake Lane Cemetery.
